FAQ

If you are new to therapy or returning you are likely to have questions about how this will work. Please see a list of FAQ's listed below. Feel free to email me with your inquiries!

  • Will my employer's insurance cover your services?
Many employers' benefit packages have an alotted amount for counselling services. Check with your employer to see if you are covered to see a registered social worker (my profession), and for what amount. Then you can be provided with a reimbursement through your insurance once I provide you with a receipt.
  • Can I see you in person?
At the moment, I am just offering zoom video or phone sessions. On the day of our appointment, I will email you a zoom invite for our session. During COVID-19 I have continued to offer only zoom video and phone sessions and have been pleasantly surprised at how seamless they are. People often enjoy being able to meet from the comfort of their home without the hassle of parking and driving. Let me know what you think!
  • What if I need to cancel our appointment?
Other than emergencies, I require a 24 hour cancellation of your appointment, otherwise you will still be billed for the session.
  • I've never been to counselling before, what can I expect?"
You may feel nervous, uncertain, excited, anxious, or some combo of all of the above! It is really normal to feel uncomfortable prior to your first appointment. It gets easier and you will notice as we talk more you will feel more at ease and comfortable as you approach appointments. Our first session is an intake appointment which will allow us to get to know eachother, build rapport and trust, and so I can get to know more about you and your hopes for counselling. There will be some standard questions that I ask as part of this intake process. Often people can feel emotional when talking about themselves-this is always a good sign because it means you are creating space for yourself to be heard and seen.
  • How often will we meet?
It really depends on you and your needs. When starting out, it is common to meet more frequently (weekly or bi-weekly) depending on our schedules. Once people start to feel better, or more equipped to cope, we may meet less frequently or on an as needed basis. We can discuss a treatment plan and this can include the frequency of our meetings.
